Murad Acne Spot Treatment wants to accomplish something that seems impossible to most people. The treatment is said to treat blemishes that are just in the beginning stages and clear up active acne breakouts.

How it Works

Murad relies on two active ingredients to help make a hostile environment for bacterial growth and to dry up oily spots. Active breakouts will dry up and heal more rapidly, while newer blemishes will not reach full breakout status.

Ingredients

Sulfur — Sulfur is a mineral used for many purposes. It has powerful antibiotic properties, and there are several antibiotics made from sulfur compounds. Obviously, the sulfur is supposed to help kill the bacteria on your skin that exacerbate acne growth.

Salicylic Acid — This is the same compound they use to make aspirin. It is used in several other acne products because it dries skin oil that ripens the environment for acne.

Licorice root –  has been used for centuries to treat a variety of conditions. It has a calming effect that Murad says will also work to calm skin irritation.

Allantoin — promotes healing. It is a chemical that is used in many products to moisturize the skin and calm irritation.

Vitamins C and E -  are both antioxidants that help boost the immune system. Vitamin E assists the skin in retaining moisture as well.

Hydrolized Oat Flour – moisturizes the skin and prevents flaking.

The spot zit remover costs $18 for .5 ounces.

Conclusion

I am skeptical of anything that says it can zap a zit in 24 hours or less. We hear a lot of claims made by fancy companies. It’s not that there is anything wrong with a stronger product. It probably does help shorten the time of outbreaks and may even help prevent future outbreaks. But I have never seen any spot treatment work as effectively as people claim. Just be aware that it may work fast, but it may also be marketing strategies.

The other thing that irritates me with this product is the cost. Spending almost $20 for anything that is .5 ounces seems a little steep to me. If anyone is going to put out that kind of money, the product had better be top notch.

One other little thing to remember is that sometimes spot removers with all of their powerful drying ingredients can cause irritation to your skin even when they contain ingredients that are supposed to calm the skin. If you decide to buy this product, test it on an area of your skin that is not noticeable to see if your skin reacts to it.
